The Qutub Shahi Tombs is the resting place for 7 generations of the Qutub Shahi Emperors. Except for the last Qutub Shahi king, Abul Hassan Tana Shah, all the previous kings of Golconda- Qutub Shahi sultanate are buried at the Qutub Shahi Tombs. The tombs are nearby to another architectural marvel of Qutub Shahis, the Golconda fort. You can visit both the monuments if you are on a 4 wheeler or a Bike.
Gol Konda means Shepherd’s Hill in the Telugu Language. The Golconda Fort was the capital of the Qutub Shahi Dynasty. It was the centre of the Diamond trade in the world and produced famous diamonds like Koh-i-Noor, Hope Diamond, Nassak Diamond, Noor ul Ain etc. The Golconda fort has 8 huge gates for entrance, out of which Fateh Darwaza is famous as it is the gate from which the army of Emperor Aurangzeb entered the Fort and captured it.
The Fateh Darwaza is one of the 8 Gates of the Golconda Fort. The forces of Mughal Emporer Aurangzeb entered into Golconda from this Gate and captured the fort after 8 months of a military campaign against Qutub Shahis, that is the reason for it to be named Fateh Darwaza. The Gate is so huge that a war elephant with a canopy can easily pass through it. There are 8 main gates to Golconda fort namely, Bala Hissar Darwaza, Fateh Darwaza, Banjara Darwaza, Moti Darwaza, Patancheru Darwaza, Mecca Darwaza, Yali Darwaza. There is a story behind each of the gates which can be elaborated later. Legends say there are secret underground networks in the Golconda Fort but have not been discovered yet.
The Charminar is the heart of the city. It was constructed in 1591 to commemorate the eradication of a deadly disease which was widespread during that period in the city. Muhammad Quli Qutb built it as the centre of the city as per the plans. The top floor in Charminar was a Mosque for a long time but prayers have been stopped to preserve the monument and prevent any damage to it. There are street hawkers near Charminar and the roads are almost always full of countless bikes and cars.
The Paigahs were an aristocratic family that was a staunch loyalist of the Nizams. The Tombs are the burial place of the Paigah family. They were constructed in a time period of 200 years. The interesting fact about the Paigah Tombs is that it displays mesmerising craftsmanship and efforts made to build the structure of the tombs.
The Raymond’s tomb is the burial place of Michel Joachim Marie Raymond, a French General in Nizam’s military. He is also the founder of Gunfoundary. The locals lovingly used to call him Musa Ram and a locality called Musa Ram Bagh in Hyderabad was named after him for his services to the Nizam Government. The Raymonds Tomb is located in interior area and a bike will be the best option if you plan to visit it.
The Chowmahalla Palace was the official residence of the Nizams of Hyderabad (Asaf Jahi Rulers). The construction of the palace was initiated in 1750 and was completed between 1857–1869. It is one of the popular tourist spots. Every day hundreds of people visit the Palace.
The Falaknuma Palace belonged to the Paigah family and was later gifted to the Nizam of Hyderabad. An English architect designed the palace. The Hotel-Palace hosted Ivanka Trump on her visit to India in 2017 GES summit. The marriage of Salman Khan’s sister Arpita Khan was solemnized here. There are parking facilities at the Palace and you can easily park your bike there.
The KBR National Park is a 400-acre park located in the prime location of Jubilee Hills. The park was gifted to Prince Mukarram Jah on his succession as a titular Nizam of Hyderabad. The KBR park was known as Chiran Park earlier. There is a palace inside the park known as Chiran Palace, that belonged to Prince Azam Jah. It was declared as a National Park in 1998 and renamed after Kasu Brahmananda Reddy. Many prominent personalities from Tollywood, Sports take a morning walk daily in this beautiful park. A lot of peacocks and other animals can be seen in the park. There is ample space for Parking of your bikes in front of the Park.
Sanjeeviah Park is another beautiful park that is spread over 92 acres. It is near Hussain Sagar. This park is known for the hoisting the second tallest Indian flag of 219 feet. A diverse and varied species of birds can be found in this park. The park displays breathtaking art created from recycled plastics and other waste materials. Since the park is adjacent to Necklace Road, it is most recommended to take the pleasure to ride a bike to reach here. The view is truly iconic and mesmerising when you ride your bike at the necklace road.
The Lumbini park is frequented by nature lovers for an ambience of nature which is fast depleting in Hyderabad. It is located very close to Sanjeeviah Park and Hussain Sagar. Many tourists love to visit this park during vacations. It has many restaurants, juice bars and refreshment centres. There is also a boating facility with a small fee. A laser show is organized in the park which must not be missed by tourists who visit Lumbini Park.
The Durgam Cheruvu Lake was a source of drinking water to Hyderabad City during the rule of Qutub Shahi Dynasty. It is a lake located in Madhapur area, the IT hub of Hyderabad. There is a beautiful park constructed beside the lake. This is also a popular spot for fishing, trekking, walking and other pastime activities for the urban populace. Boating facility is also available in the park.
Decani Theme Park is a first of its kind park in Hyderabad. This park is located beside Mir Alam Tank in Old City. The speciality of the park is that it is themed around the Qutub Shahi and Asaf Jah dynasties. There are pictures and arts are based on mehndi work and resemble architectural styles of Hyderabad of the past. It is a newly constructed park and is spread over 6 acres. The Mir Alam Tank is a reservoir and was a major source of drinking water during the Asaf Jahi Dynasty. This park is adjacent to Zoo Park which is on the roadside too. It is recommended to take a bike ride to visit the Park as there is ample space for parking.
Taramati baradari was a roadside inn for travellers coming from far off. It is a Persian style garden built for travellers to take a rest after a day-long journey. The Sarai/inn is named after a courtesan of Abdullah Qutb Shah, the 5th sultan of Qutub Shahi Dynasty. Since it is on a roadside, we can easily reach Taramati Baradari on a 4 wheeler or bike.
