Famous & Historical Dargahs in Hyderabad! (Holy Tombs)

The Dargah is a shrine of a Sufi Saint. A dargah or a tomb is built over the grave of revered personalities. The Saints at Dargah are believed to be Wali of God and are said to possess spiritual powers. There are very old and historical Dargahs located in Hyderabad. Many people of different religions visit the Dargahs to seek blessing and for spiritual help. There are often many stories and legends associated with the lives of the pious people. 

Many Sufis and devotees believe that the Saints remain alive even after physical death. The death anniversary of the saints are known as “URS” and is celebrated annually. Millions of Believers from across the world visit Dargahs of the saints and perform many rituals like Salaam, Fateha, Durood and Sandal. The Sufi songs like Qawwali have begun and is popularised by eminent Sufis of the subcontinent. 

In Hyderabad of Deccan, there are countless Dargahs of notable Saints (Walis). Some are as old as 800 years while others are a century old. 

At most dargahs in Hyderabad, food is provided for every person. Anybody irrespective of his faith can visit a Dargah and quench his hunger and thirst. The management committee and service providers at the Dargahs are known as “Khadims”.

1. Hazrat Yousufain Sharifain Dargah

 

The Yousufain Dargah is the tomb of two famous commanders of Emperor Aurangzeb and revered Sufi saints, Baba Yousufuddin and Baba Sharifuddin. Both the saints were originally from Syria. They moved to India after following their spiritual leader who lived in Delhi. 

The dargah complex also has graves of well-known personalities like Daagh Dehlvi (Prominent Urdu Poet) and Mir Mahbub Ali Khan, VI Nizam of Hyderabad. 

2. Maula Ali Dargah

 

Maula Ali dargah was built by Qutub Shahi Kings. It is dedicated to Maula Ali, the son-in-law of Prophet Muhammed. Maula Ali was the Son-in-law of the prophet and is one of the greatest personalities of Islam. All Sufi orders in the world trace their origin to Prophet Mohammed through Imam Ali. The Moula Ali Dargah is located at Hill Top, Maula Ali Hill. The Dargah is located at the outskirts of the city. 

 

3. Pahadi Shareef Dargah

The Pahadi Shareef dargah is the tomb of the Sufi Saint, Hazrat Syedna Sharfuddin Baba who lived 750 years ago. Devotees of all religions attend the annual Urs of the saint. Hazrat Syedna Sharfuddin was the first Sufi Saint to arrive in South India. He is a descendant of Prophet Mohammad. Baba Sharfuddin was a disciple of Sheikh Abdul Qadir Jilani, the world-famous Sufi saint from Iraq. He is also called as “Sultan of Deccan” by people. 

 

4. Dargah Hazrat Khaja Mohammed Siddique Mahboob Allah 

The Dargah of Hazrat Khaja Mohammed Siddique Mahboob Allah is located in the old city of Hyderabad. Historians trace the lineage of Hazrat to be a descendant of Imam Hussain, the Grandson of Prophet Muhammed. There are many miracles and strange incidents in the life of Hazrat that have been recorded by historians.  Hazrat is even remembered for his love for poetry, art, calligraphy, mathematics and not just devotion to God. 

 

5. Dargah Hazrat Syed Hussain Shah Wali RH

Hazrat Hussain Shah Wali is a descendant of the Prophet Mohammed through his Grandson Imam Hussain. He is also a descendant of one of the most revered saints in India, Khaja Banda Nawaz. Hazrat Hussain Shah Wali lived under the Golconda Dynasty. He is credited for building prominent Masjids and Hussain Sagar Reservoir in Hyderabad. He was a great saint of his times and had spiritual powers. His Dargah is located at Shaikpet area of Hyderabad.  


 

6. Hazrath Syed Saadat Bani Hashim Dargah

The Dargah of Hazrat Syed Saadat is known for emitting positive vibes. He belongs to the Ahle-Bayt (Family of the Prophet). A very pleasant environment is visible in the holy shrine. The disciples of Hazrat continue to spread his message of love in the Dargah. 

 

7. Peeli Dargah Shareef

The Peeli Dargah sharif is a tomb of Hazrat Khwaja Qudratullah Chisti. The experience at the shrine is very peaceful elevating. The Peeli Dargah Shareef is the place where Universal Brotherhood of Sufism is advocated. The Hazrat lived his life propagating the message of peace and his disciple continue his traditions at this shrine. 

8. Dargah Hazrat Muhammad Abdul Qadeer Siddiqi Qadri

Hazrat Muhammed Abdul Qadeer Siddiqui was an Islamic scholar and a Sufi from Hyderabad. He lived in the 19th Century during the rule of Asaf Jahis. He is known among his close spiritual disciples as Qadeer Piya or "Qadeer the Beloved", Siddiqi was a descendant of the first Islamic Caliph, Abu Bakr. His forefathers came from the city of Ahmedabad in the modern-day Indian state of Gujarat. His 'urs is commemorated every year on the 16th, 17th and 18th of the Islamic month of Shawwal.

9. Ujale Shah Sahab Dargah

The Dargah of Syedna Ujale Shah Baba is located at Saidabad, New Malakpet, Hyderabad. 

10. Dargah Hazrat Shah Khamosh

The Dargah of Hazrat Shah Khamosh dates back to the 19th century. The saint is known for performing many miracles in his lifetime which are still remembered by his disciples. There are many interesting events from the life of the sheikh which have been recorded in his biographies.
