History :
An aristocrat of the Salar Jung group of Hyderabad, Nawab Mir Yousuf Ali Khan, Salar Jung III (1889– 1949) filled in as Prime Minister of Hyderabad amid the Nizam's standard. He spent a significant measure of his pay, over a period thirty-five years, gathering curios from the whole way across the world.

After the Nawab kicked the bucket in 1949, the accumulations were abandoned in his hereditary royal residence Diwan Devdi. The gathering was earlier shown there as a private exhibition hall, named Salar Jung Museum, which was introduced by Jawaharlal Nehru on 16 December 1951.

Old clocks trust that the present accumulation establishes just 50% of the first workmanship riches gathered by the Nawab. His workers redirected some portion of it, since the Nawab relied on his staff to keep a vigil.

In 1968, the gallery moved to its present area at Dar-ul-Shifa, and is controlled by a Board of Trustees with the Governor of Telangana as ex officio executive under the Salar Jung Museum Act of 1961. Some more craftsmanship pieces were lost or stolen amid the moving of the historical center from Diwan Devdi to the present site.

In 2006, a fire broke out in an assembly hall in the historical center premises. In any case, it was immediately doused and none of the curios were damaged. After the occurrence, fire wellbeing offices were overhauled.
